1. Who We Are
Lefty Scissors, LLC ("Walk Tools," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Walk Tools platform — a camera-driven field workflow service that uses the phone camera to capture text and barcodes and match them against user-imported spreadsheets, available at walk.tools and via our iOS and Android applications. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle the personal data of visitors, account holders, and end users of our platform.
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@walk.tools.
2. Data We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
- Account information. Name, email address, company name, job title, and password when you register.
- Walk capture data. Camera captures, recognized text and barcodes, photos, notes, asset records, imported lookup files, and optional location metadata you capture during a walk.
- Usage data. Pages visited, features used, session duration, device type, browser, and IP address, collected through server logs and analytics.
- Payment information. Billing name, address, and the last four digits of your card. Full payment card details are handled directly by our payment processor and are never stored on our servers.
- Communications. Emails or messages you send to our support team.
The current Walk.Tools iOS and Android apps run in an on-device mode. Camera frames are processed locally for text and barcode recognition, imported spreadsheets and captures are stored on the device, and precise location is used only if you choose to create a GPS-gated local record. If you opt into background matching, the app may use background location to activate saved GPS-gated records when you enter or exit a saved area. The mobile apps do not send this local data to Walk Tools unless you intentionally export or share it.
Mobile map editors may request map tiles or region information from platform map providers, such as Apple Maps on iOS or OpenStreetMap tile servers on Android, for the visible map area. These requests are used only to display the map while you edit a GPS-gated local record.
If mobile crash reporting is enabled, we may receive limited diagnostic data such as crash reports, app version, device type, operating system version, and performance or hang information. We configure crash reporting not to send default personal information.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Walk Tools platform.
- Authenticate your identity and manage your account.
- Process payments and send billing-related communications.
- Send product updates, security alerts, and administrative notices.
- Respond to your support requests and questions.
- Analyze aggregated, de-identified usage patterns to improve features and fix bugs.
- Comply with applicable laws and enforce our Terms of Service.
The Walk Tools mobile app may process camera frames, recognized text, barcodes, imported spreadsheets, and optional location data on your device to power capture and local matching features. We may use diagnostic data to identify crashes, performance issues, and reliability problems. We do not use your inspection data, photos, field notes, imported files, or camera-derived text to train machine learning models, serve advertising, or for any purpose other than delivering the service to you.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers. Trusted vendors who help us operate the platform (cloud hosting, payment processing, error monitoring) under strict data processing agreements.
- Your organization. If your account is provisioned by an employer or team administrator, they may have access to walks and reports created under that account.
- Legal obligations. When required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Walk Tools or others.
- Business transfers. In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may transfer to the successor entity, subject to the same privacy commitments.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data and inspection records for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your subscription, we retain your data for 90 days to allow you to export or restore it. After 90 days, data is permanently deleted from our systems, including backups, within 30 additional days. You may request earlier deletion at any time by contacting privacy@walk.tools.
6. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards including TLS encryption in transit, AES-256 encryption at rest, role-based access controls, and regular third-party security audits. For a detailed overview of our security practices, see our Security page.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. You may also object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@walk.tools with your request. We will respond within 30 days.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, additional rights and disclosures may apply under GDPR or CCPA. Please contact us for details.
8. Cookies and Tracking
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you logged in and maintain session state. We use analytics cookies (with your consent where required by law) to understand how the platform is used. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings; disabling cookies may affect certain platform features.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or via an in-app notice at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
